GENERAL DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION :-
Lead-Loc, referring to the exploded view above:
When the Lead Thrust Nut (1) is counter rotated with the Coupling Body (5) the components 2,3, and 4 are moved together into the Coupling Body (5). The water seal is made first as the ‘0’ Ring (4) is compressed against the Coupling Body (5) and the lead pipe. Further counter-rotation causes the Friction Ring (3) to butt against the Coupling Body (5) forming a positive stop and ensuring that the coupling can not be over tightened and the lead pipe does not "neck" to restrict the water flow. Therefore a liner is not necessary for the lead pipe. Further counter-rotation causes the Gripper Ring (2) to flatten and take the shape of a conventional washer. In doing so, the geometry of the component is such that a portion of the Gripper Ring (2) penetrates the lead pipe and provides the end restraint or pull out resistance of the coupling. The coupling is fully tightened when this stage is reached and can not be over tightened. Tighten the compression nut & copper olive sufficiently to give a water tight seal. Do not over tighten as in extreme circumstances the thread may be damaged or cracked.
